Expert Guide
A native speaker from England, with 25 years of teaching experience across the UK, France, Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, and even around the world on a cruise ship, Jo has helped hundreds of students to master English and to pass Cambridge and IELTS exams.
Jo's greatest joy as a teacher is watching a student who was afraid to speak, now confidently order a coffee and chat with strangers.
A Brighton local, she loves sharing the beautiful seaside city with new friends from around the world.

Perfect Location for Language Learning
Brighton is ideal for Jo Lingo English retreats for many reasons. Firstly, it's a friendly, open-minded city where locals are happy to chat with visitors. The compact city centre means everything is within walking distance – from beach to shops to cultural attractions.
Unlike London, Brighton is less overwhelming and more welcoming for language learners. Yet with direct trains to London taking just one hour, it's easy to visit the capital too.
Most importantly, Brighton offers countless real-life English situations in a relaxed atmosphere. Whether you're ordering coffee in a café, asking directions on the beach promenade, or chatting with shop owners in The Lanes, you'll practice English naturally throughout the day. The city becomes your classroom, making it the perfect place to build your confidence in English.
Historical Seaside Destination
Brighton is the perfect place for our retreats with its beauty, friendly people, and rich culture.
Brighton is on the south coast of England, 50 miles/ 85 km from London.
Until King George IV started sea swimming in Brighton, it was just a small fishing village. In the late 1700’s, he began visiting often, built the Royal Pavilion, and soon the village became a popular town for rich and famous Londoners.
When a new direct train line from London to Brighton was built, normal people could now visit easily and the town became a favourite holiday spot for everyone.
Today's Brighton still has beautiful old buildings, but it's much more than just "London by the sea." In 2001, Brighton and Hove became a city. It has two universities, many art events, a Premier League football team, the famous Brighton Pier and beach, unique shops, cosy pubs, exciting nightlife, and the beautiful South Downs National Park nearby.
Visitors from all over the world come to Brighton, the UK's most loved seaside destination.
